One for the day…

Day 1 at the Act 6 in Madeira Islands was light and short. Only one race was completed.

Not like yesterdays champagne sailing, but simply very light and fickle. Extreme sailing Series put it very precisely: “The practice session was the perfect showcase for the Madeira Islands as they host the Extreme Sailing Series for the first time ever. But as the event proper got underway today the wind gods took an untimely day off, and the seven teams were left trying to squeeze every last bit of boatspeed from the gentle puffs of just a few knots”.

That said, SAP Extreme Sailing Team took a 3rd place in todays only race and battled hard for 2nd place 100 meters before the finish just to see Red Bull take the first and Alinghi 2nd. Results here and thankfully the detail craving audience can rely on insights from SAP Sailing Analytics here.

The weather forecast for Fridays racing does not look promising, though the high pressure is moving east bound and will increase when the racing resumes. Expect 3-6 knots, building. Since it will be cloudy, the thermals won’t really kick in later.
