Ready for Lisbons Rio Tajo

The Extreme Sailing Series is heading for Lisbon, Portugal, this coming Friday October 6th to Sunday October 9th and will once again be 4 days of intense stadium racing and the penultimate event of the 2016 series, Act 7.

The racing will take place on the outside (west) of the ‘humming bridge’ – Ponte 25 de abril – and is at the mouth of the river ‘Rio Tajo’ right out to the Atlantic Ocean and can be characterized as a place with plenty of current and commercial traffic.

It will be the most crowded fleet seen this season, since 10 crews are at the line up, notably the first all-female crew from France and the US team also known from the Act 6 in Madeira Islands from a few weeks ago. The fleet will sharpen its teeth even more since this is the penultimate event that will lead up to the final podium places of the year and the results in Act 7 will make an strong tell tale of how the final Act 8 in Sydney will be battled. The overall leaderboard reveals the very close fight for podium positions and with 2 acts left, there’s almost no margins for error amongst the top three and on fourth place, SAP Extreme Sailing Team, trailing slightly behind the podium positions, little can happen before they catch up.

Helmsman Jes Gram-Hansen have sailed on the river of Tajo before and weighs in: “No doubt about the current is a major factor in this regatta. Especially if the wind is light and put even more emphasis on good starts and clean air after mark roundings”.
